Set and forget and the SeedMaster gets the job done

SeedMaster Toolbars are helping to streamline sowing time at Gleeson Farms, a large mixed cropping enterprise north of Swan Hill in the Victorian northern Mallee.

Manager Scott Gladman oversees 18,623ha of wheat, barley, chickpeas, lentils, canola and oaten hay.

Five years ago, the farm bought two 24.3m SeedMaster Toolbars to tackle the task and Scott considers it as money well spent.

“The beauty of the SeedMaster is it is so easy to use. You simply set and forget,” Scott said.

“After setting the automatic packing pressure, you use a foot pedal to lift and lower the tynes into the ground, they engage, then you seed up the paddock.”

He loves the toolbar’s precision in placing the seed and fertiliser through its double shoot system and says it has a proven track record as the ultimate workhorse.

“Our SeedMasters work 24 hours a day, and in that time, they cover more than 486ha.

“One standout feature of the toolbar is its ability to speed up when needed. If heavy rain stops sowing, it has the capacity to seed more than 890ha in 24 hours to get our schedule back on track.”

Other popular features include the residue deflectors enabling effortless trash flow, the lift kit providing float when pulling through mud and a compact travel mode.

From a design perspective, Scott Gladman singles out its active wing brace.

“There is a tension bar that goes from corner to corner of the SeedMaster and as more packing pressure is applied and make the bar work harder, it takes that stress rather than the wing.”

He believes bolting the toolbar together instead of welding it, gives the toolbar flex and added strength.

“Our two bars have so far clocked up 111,740 ha yet we have not touched either of them. There are no cracks or signs of wear and tear.
